About Us

Crimson Dawn Redbones has roots from a variety of established and respected Redbone kennels. Our dogs lean heavily toward Tree Rizin', Sidearm, and Sierra bloodlines. Many of them also go back to Haye's, Hoffmeister, Henning's, Tioga Valley, and Timber Chopper blood.

Our first Redbone came from Georgia many years ago. Since then, other Redbone breeders have been instrumental in helping us build a foundation and create a vision for the future of our dogs. We owe a debt of gratitude to them all. We deeply appreciate the competition, support, and friendship of so many other people in the Redbone breed. There are simply too many of them to list.

Colorado Redbone Coonhounds

Crimson Dawn Redbones is Colorado's premier Redbone Coonhound kennel, nestled high in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 7,750 feet. We are a family-run operation, owning and breeding some of the finest Redbones in the country. We do very limited breeding. When we have puppies for sale, we strive to match puppy buyers with the best possible Redbone for their needs, whether it be a hunter, field competition dog, show dog, or merely an outstanding companion. Our dogs compete very successfully in UKC and AKC conformation at the national level and have the ability to perform very well in other competitions as well. Many of them excel at hunting and have been used successfully on coons, mountain lions, bears, and bobcats. We also have numerous top field and water competition dogs in our line. Our dogs, when properly trained, will become true dual-purpose hounds, performing well at a variety of things. A glance at our pedigrees reflects a long history of multi-purpose Redbone Coonhounds.

Crimson Dawn Redbones excel in conformation competition in a variety of registries, including AKC, UKC, and IABCA, both in bench shows and in the ring. We do most of the dog handling ourselves.

We don't enter our dogs in competition coon hunts, but they certainly possess the instincts and drive to track and tree a variety of game. While coons are hunted here in the Rockies, there are very few competition coon hunts here compared to the Midwest and South. In Colorado, hunting big game is more common than hunting coons, and several of our Redbones are being used as big game hounds. This being the case, just because a dog in our pedigrees does not have a coon-hunting title does not mean it cannot hunt. Some of the dogs in our foundation (NGRCH, GRCH 'PR' Sidearm Bare Necessities and UKC GRCH, AKC CCH 'PR' Tree Rizin' Triple Crown being just two) are accomplished show dogs that are also multi NITECH producers. Many dogs from our lines have become valued and reliable pleasure hunters for their owners. They do what they are supposed to do in the woods and look good doing it.

We treat our hounds like the wonderful companion dogs they are. We do not believe in keeping them tied out or in outdoor kennels full time. All of our Redbones get rotated to receive time as "house dogs" and are crate trained and housebroken to be wonderful indoor pets that relish the attention. These dogs strive to please, and they quickly bond with family members. Our dogs also get plenty of time outdoors to explore the woods and spend time in their runs. Each of us humans at Crimson Dawn Redbones has his or her own personal "favorite" dogs to which we have become deeply attached and which hold special places in our hearts. We all try to play a hand in training each of the dogs, but a rapport often emerges between certain humans and hounds.

The high elevation at our location and Colorado's crisp, clean air contribute to the good health, vigor, and robust nature of our Redbones. In this environment, their high-quality diet and ample exercise and conditioning make them spectacular examples of the breed--dogs that are more than able to hold their own in the woods or in the show ring. To us, they are the ultimate canine companion.

We care deeply about each dog we own or sell. This being the case, we screen potential puppy buyers carefully to ensure that they will provide exceptional homes and the necessary attention our dogs deserve. Any person who buys a Crimson Dawn Redbone and is unable to keep it--for any reason--may return the dog to us at any time. We remain committed to their care throughout their lifetimes.

It is our wish that each of the pups we sell grows up to become his or her owner's cherished lifelong companion. We believe that whether a Redbone is a titled competition show or hunting dog, it is also a companion first and foremost, and this is what it spends the vast majority of its time doing. â€‹Time spent on the bench or in the show ring or woods is relatively small compared to the time spent in the casual company of its owner, whether that be on the living room couch or walking a hiking trail.

We want your Crimson Dawn Redbone to be the best dog you have ever owned.
